Isaiah chapter 35 - Habakkuk

Chapter 1
Habakkuk asks God how much longer before He saves His people.
Recognizes the pollution of his own nation, people and government
God says He is going to bring the Chaldeans across Israel in judgment
They will completely cover the land taking everything in their path
Habakkuk recognizes God’s greatness as He judges Israel in this way
He uses the heathen to judge God’s people relentlessly

Chapter 2
God tells Habakkuk to write down the vision He is going to give him
The vision is for a time yet way in the future, and things will surely come to pass
“He” (not identified) is proud, doesn’t stay home, cannot be satisfied, gathers all nations
Enlarges his desire as hell, heaps up all people unto himself
“These” (not identified) shall question “him” and his actions
Takes that which is not his, spoils many nations, blood, violence, Woe to him
“These” shall rise up and bite him, woe to him that takes by violence
Woe to him who seduces with wine to take what is not his
“He” will be judged in turn and will receive according as he has dished out
Woe to makers of and worshippers of idols. They have no life in them

Chapter 3
Habakkuk’s prayer
In the midst (middle?) of the years revive and make known
His (God’s) glory and power have been temporarily hidden from man
His judgment comes now upon the nations
Everlasting mountains (kingdoms?) were scattered, hills (governments?) bow
The nations tremble before Him
Was He angry with the rivers and seas and oceans?
Sun and moon stand still, heavenly lights dim compared to His arrows and spears
God now comes to save His anointed people
I (Habakkuk) tremble as I watch what He is doing to His enemies
Plant and animal production will cease, yet Habakkuk will rejoice
I (Habakkuk) walk securely upon high places. God is not going after me

Isaiah chapter 35 outline
Wilderness and desert shall come to life and blossom with joy and receive glory
They shall see the glory of Him and be strengthened and encourage each other
God comes to save His own and wreak revenge upon their enemies
Great healing, physical and spiritual shall happen
The land will be healed, water in the desert, pools, and lush growth
The way of Holiness shall be the highway into this haven, and only His people
will pass into this land. The ransomed will return singing with joy

The prophecy of Habakkuk is for the last days tribulation period, and Isaiah’s chapter thirty-five speaks of the end of that period and the restoration of Israel at the end of it. The two fit together like a glove slipping on to a hand. Habakkuk details the nature of events in the time of Jacob’s trouble and prays for the end of that period to come. Then, Isaiah chapter thirty-five pictures the end of the tribulation and the complete restoration of God’s people in their God-given land.

This is Isaiah chapter thirty-five, and Habakkuk is the thirty-fifth book of the Bible. They are connected.
